Dermatologist Dr. Michael Freeman is among many clinical trial sites in Australia beginning new clinical trials for psoriasis this year. Dr. Michael Freeman and his staff at The Skin Centre are an experienced clinical research site, having participated in dermatology clinical trials for over 10 years.  The Skin Centre is located in the Pindara Specialist Suites next to the Pindara Hospital.  In addition to clinical trials for psoriasis, The Skin Centre conducts trials for skin cancer, atopic dermatitis (eczema), acne, actinic keratosis, and other dermatological conditions.

Dr. Freeman is an active member in the medical community in the Gold Coast region of Australia.  He is the Director of Dermatology at the Gold Coast Hospital, a Visiting Dermatologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Bond University, and also a member of the Skin and Cancer Foundation of Queensland. According to Ted Trafford, Managing Director of Probity Medical Research, “We are proud to have Dr. Michael Freeman join our network of Dermatology Clinical Trial Sites. His expertise in psoriasis research will benefit the patients of Queensland and complements our other research facilities throughout Australia”.

Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin disease that causes dry, red, scaly patches (called lesions) on the skin.  These lesions can make the skin itch, burn, flake, or bleed. The most common form, plaque psoriasis, exhibits patches of raised, red skin covered with a silvery, white, flaky scale. Between 2 to 3 percent of the worldwide population has psoriasis. Plaque psoriasis currently has no known cure.
